Weaver – Cynthia Sue (Welch), 81 of Boston and Chatham, NJ, died on March 3, 2017 at Bourne Manor, Cape Cod. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, she and her family moved to Chatham, NJ, in the 1940’s. After graduating from Chatham High School, she attended Wellesley College graduating in 1957 with a degree in French. She taught high school French for several years before starting a family. After her children were grown, she returned to school earning two Master’s degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Cynthia worked for two state hospitals as a psychologist prior to starting a private practice. She also led a breast cancer support group and also volunteered as an English as a second language teacher for many years
She was heavily involved in her community – specifically as a patron of the arts. She frequently went into New York City to see shows and visit museums. Another passion was travel. She participated in many group trips around the world but she also enjoyed her summers at the family home on Cape Cod and bi-annual Johnston family reunions in Iowa, California and New Hampshire.
While she was fiercely independent she also loved people, especially her children and large extended family. Cynthia always had a close group of friends around that she could travel with, go to shows, dine out or just hang out with. She was also extremely caring of the less fortunate, always helping others as she could. Her caring demeanor also included animals especially her pet cats.
She is survived by her children, James D. Weaver of New Brunswick, NJ, Stacey L. Purslow and her husband, Richard, of Rochester, NH and Ellen Weaver Migliaccio and her husband, John of Bourne, MA; her nephew, Christopher Valk and his wife, Elaine, of Bloomsbury, NJ and their daughters, Jennifer and Abigail. She was the sister of the late Barbara Valk and the daughter of the late Earl Welch, and Kathryn (Johnston) Welch of Madison, NJ.
Services are private.
Donations in memory of Cynthia may be made to the ASPCA.
