was the daughter of the late Jose F. Cintron and Maria Teresa Cintron (Manzano).
Aurea was born in Manhattan, New York in October of 1925 and at the age of 8, moved with her family
to San Juan, Puerto Rico. She attended Elementary and Middle School at Colegio San Agustin, and
graduated from Central High School in San Juan at the age of 16. She attended the University of Puerto
Rico on a full scholarship, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Magna Cum Laude).
She later earned her Master’s Degree in Literature from Marquette University and then brought her
talents and passions back to her home of Puerto Rico. She became one of the founding members of the
Catholic University of Puerto Rico where she served for 50 years as Professor, Board Member, and
Chairman of the English and Foreign Languages Department for several terms. She was also an official
translator for the University, a contributor for the College Entrance Examination Board, as well as a
Member of the Accreditation Committee for the Middle States. In her honor, the University has
dedicated their Language Lab to her, which proudly bears her name.
While teaching at The Catholic University, she met her husband, Luis G. Rodriguez Sr. (Taty); they were
married for 36 years. They had four children: Luis G, Cynthia, Jose Luis, and Alicia, which they raised in
their loving home and all attended and graduated from The Catholic University.
Aurea was a brilliant and loving woman. She was a voracious reader, an avid poet, enjoyed crossword
puzzles, but above all was her love for her family and friends. A fantastic conversationalist, she would
spend many hours on the phone nightly to keep in contact and give any wisdom she could. She had a
very calming presence coupled with boundless wisdom. She had the unique gift of making everyone
around her feel at ease.
She is survived by her four children, her cousin Matilde Rosa, nine grandchildren, and two great
grandchildren.
A Visitation with her family will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the
Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home located at 40 MacArthur Boulevard in Bourne, MA.
A Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 7:00pm in the funeral home.
