Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Matheson) MacKenzie. She resided in North Easton for 47 years before finally getting her water view in Pocasset. Ann was raised in Randolph, and graduated from Randolph High School. She married the love of her life, Tom, on December 5, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Stoughton.
Ann enjoyed nature. Whether it was piling her kids in the camper and heading to the beach, relaxing in New Hampshire, gardening or strolling in the woods with Tom, she loved the outdoors. She also loved cooking for her family, there was hardly a birthday that passed without her famous Orange Icebox Cake or a Thanksgiving without a (usually) successful Bavarian Cream. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren.
In her actions, Ann made sure to instill the following lessons to her kids and grandkids:
1. Always Be Kind First. Her inherent goodness was like no other. She had the ability to turn a famously grouchy parrot into a cuddly puppy-bird and stop naughty kids in their tracks with just one kind-but-cautionary glance.
2. Say Yes. She never said no to an adventure. Whether it was an impromptu trip to the casino, a glass of Roscato or an extra stick of butter, she had every intention of living life to the fullest.
3. Be Yourself. She was the unwavering support system at the core of her family. With a wide-range of personalities across her husband, five children, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, she never let anyone feel as though who they were was anything but the best. Even though she perfected the loving-scold of “Oh Tom!” followed by a light arm whack, she was the main source for encouragement, praise and positivity.
She is survived by a son, James Mann of Taunton; four daughters, Cheryl Blanchard and her husband Albert of Stoughton, Janice Mann of Easton, Kristine Abrams and her husband Neal of Falmouth, and Denise Gnazzo of Bourne; a brother, Robert MacKenzie and his wife Tootsie of Orange City, FL; siblings-in-law, Wayne Mann, Glenn Mann, Chester Mann, Joel Mann and Mabel Dykeman; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late James Mann, Jr.
