Beloved Dad and PopPop, Winston W. Scott, Jr. “Scotty” passed away on February 2, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born in Escondido, CA on December 1935 and grew up in the Seattle area. He was the oldest son of Winston and Linda Scott. He graduated from Berkeley University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and joined NBS (renamed NIST) as an Electrical Engineer and later was the Safety Officer for the regional Department of Commerce. He married the love of his life, Barbara in June 1959. During retirement, he partnered with Laerie, Inc. as their Instrumentation Engineer and worked there for over 25 years. Scotty was an accomplished Ham Radio Operator and his call letters K0TEP are known to people worldwide.
While working at NBS, Scotty received a patent for “Radio frequency coaxial ammeter with thermal compensation" on which he was the sole inventor.
Scotty was a 55 year member of the Masonic Lodge having initiated in 1963. He was Master of Boulder Lodge No. 45 in 1974 and of Lafayette Lodge No. 91 in 2008 and was also a member of the Scottish Rite. He and Barbara were long-time members of First Presbyterian Church in Boulder and he had recently transferred his membership to Valmont Church.
While Scotty lived his entire adult life in Boulder, he never lost his love of the Pacific Northwest. He planned a number of family vacations which involved staying at remote Forest Service Cabins in Alaska which were only accessible via boat or float plane. In later years, his vacations centered around fishing in British Columbia on the family boat with family and friends. During retirement he and Barbara visited destinations worldwide as well as many Ham Radio Shows.
Family was always Scotty's top priority. He and Barbara were married for over 50 years and he missed her greatly when she passed away in October 2017. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Craig, Karen Womack and Kathryn Krause and grandchildren Katrina Proctor, Karissa Bayliss, Taylor Lindsey, Miranda Cass, and Lexi and Morgan Krause. He has two brothers Loren and Byron Scott and numerous nephews and a niece. Scotty was preceded in death by his parents Winston and Linda Scott, his daughter Christine Lindsey and his brother Solon Scott. Scotty will be missed by all as he lived his life motto until the end "Love life and people and that love will come back to you twofold"
A celebration of his life will be held at Valmont Community Presbyterian Church, 3262 61st St, Boulder, CO on Saturday, February 17 at 2:00PM. A Masonic Funeral Service will be held prior to this service at 1:00PM at the same location and is open to all.
