Ruth Helen (Zilz) Ross was born in Winnipeg, Canada on December 26, 1922 and passed away peacefully on November 16, 2019 in Boulder, Colorado. Her family moved to California when she was just an infant and she traveled with them in a laundry basket. She grew up in Venice, California with her two brothers and two sisters and always loved the beach. The family had many adventures. In 1955, Ruth married the love of her life, Irving Ross, and they enjoyed 40 years together. They had a daughter and son, and she loved Irving’s son from his first marriage as her own. They enjoyed travelling together and had many shared interests, including volunteering with the City of Hope. Ruth worked as a secretary for the Department of Defense and was involved with many projects including the start of the space shuttle program. In her later years, Ruth lived at The Academy in Boulder and considered everyone there to be part of her family. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband Irving, parents Emil and Saidie, son Howard, brothers Gerry and Bobby, and sisters Faye and Gloria. Ruth is survived by her daughter Vicki (Ken) Kalin, son Richard (Luanne), daughter-in-law Kathleen, grandchildren Kelly, Douglas, Kevin, Denise, Allison, and Melanie, and great-grandchildren Kyrah, Scarlett, Coulton, Aiden, Gavin, Ariella, Cloud, and Miles. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at The Academy in Boulder on December 7, 2019 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
