He will be remembered for his eternal optimism, his quick smile, his love of laughter, and especially the relationships he cherished with his wife of 62 years and his four daughters.
Ray was born in Conway Springs, Kansas on Sept. 16, 1927 to Ray B. King and Bessie Paisley King. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Roberta Myers, brother James (Bus) King, and son-in-law Christopher McNamara.
Ray graduated from Conway Springs High School in 1945. During high school he was an accomplished athlete: played football, held records in pole vaulting, swimming, and diving. He attended Wichita State University before being drafted to WWII.
He married his high school sweetheart Joan Sanders in 1948. Ray's love for the mountains and the outdoors made Colorado a favorite vacation spot and in 1957 Ray and his family moved to Boulder. Shortly after moving to Boulder he opened and operated Boulder Appliance Co. until he retired in 1985.
Ray was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Since retiring Ray and his wife have enjoyed traveling and spending time as "snow birds" in Arizona where he continued to enjoy golf, swimming, and entertaining family and friends.
Ray is survived by his wife Joan, his daughters Christina McNamara, Susanne English, Nancy Moschetti (husband Louie), Rebecca Fowler, his grandchildren: Stephanie Downare, Rocco English, Summer Bridwell, Tanya English, Torry Moschetti, Nick Moschetti, Kyle McNamara, Tyler McNamara, Paige McNamara, Jillian Fowler, Jackson Fowler, 17 great-grandchildren, and neices and nephews.
Visitation will be held 4 to 7 pm Tuesday December 28 at Crist Mortuary 3395 Penrose Place. Interment will be on Wednesday Dec. 29th, 1:00 at Green Mountain Cemetary. Rev. John Hess and Rev. Mike Houlik will officiate a 2:00 memorial service at First Presbyterian Church, 1820 15th St. Boulder, Colorado. A reception at the church will follow.
