1927 – 2022
Patricia “Pat” Van Keuren Lozier died peacefully at home on August 5, 2022 at 94 years of age. Patricia was born on October 23, 1927 in Dutchess County New York to Gertrude C. (Doughty) and Benjamin Morris Van Keuren. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1943 (at 15 ½ years old) and worked as a store clerk in Wallace’s Department Store to save money for secretarial training at NYU commuting by train from Poughkeepsie to New York city for classes. Pat then worked for the New York State Employment Services and subsequently managed an insurance office. She met her future husband George Arnold Lozier on a double date, and they were married about a year later on July 22, 1950 at Saint Peter’s Church in Poughkeepsie, New York. Pat and George had 4 children, Nancy and Susan (the twins) (Dennis and Nick husbands), Kathleen (aka Kathy) and Margaret (aka Peggy). The family moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1965 with IBM. Pat was a dedicated wife and mother and could do almost anything she chose to pursue. She was an accomplished businesswoman, Brownie Scout and Girl Scout Leader, St. Mary’s School Mother’s Guild President, mastered the automobile (which initially terrified her) so she could be one of the neighborhood children’s carpool drivers, superb seamstress, making stunning first communion, prom, graduation and wedding dresses for all of her daughters, a fantastic cook and church secretary and the most meticulous housekeeper ever. She was also a bible scholar and grandmother to John (Meredith), Robert (Lydia), Tim (Alethia) and Carrie and great grandmother to Claiborne, Liam, Jacob, Matthew and Gabriel. Like all the best mothers she instilled a love of learning and adventure in her children and could be the harshest of critics but ultimately the most supportive parent after the dust settled. She was loving, tough, determined, tenacious and disciplined. Pat has been so loved and will be so missed.
