Patricia was born on April 30, 1939, to Herman and Frances Porterfield, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Patricia was followed by a brother, Robbie, in 1941. The family moved to Palisade, Colorado later in 1941 where Patricia’s father purchased and farmed a peach orchard. Patricia loved to share happy memories of growing up on the peach farm. She had a large, extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins living nearby she enjoyed spending time with.
Patricia graduated from Palisade High School in 1957 and married William Branson, her high school sweetheart, in 1958. They had two children, Linda and Brian. The family lived for a brief time in Phoenix, Arizona and returned to Colorado in 1967, settling in Boulder. After their children were grown Patricia and her husband moved to Lexington, Kentucky for seven years after which they returned to Boulder. Patricia moved to Castle Rock following the death of her husband to be closer to her daughter, Linda, where she lived until her death.
Patricia loved music. She started piano lessons at an early age and over the course of her life also played the clarinet, organ, and handbells and enjoyed singing in choirs. She took up painting and enjoyed painting Colorado landscapes. She also enjoyed traveling and long drives through the beautiful Colorado mountains.
Patricia was a devoted wife and mother who supported her children in their academic, musical, and sporting endeavors. She volunteered at school, was a girl scout leader, and attended many recitals, concerts, and games. After her children were grown, Patricia decided to pursue her love of music by enrolling in the music department at the University of Colorado. Her daughter, Linda, had the privilege of taking a class with her mother while they were both studying at the University. Patricia graduated from the University in 1985, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Church Organ Music at the age of forty-six. Patricia was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church most recently attending the church in Castle Rock.
Patricia was blessed with five grandchildren. She cherished her grandchildren and supported them as she had her children by attending their recitals, concerts, and games. She was immensely proud of all of them and their many accomplishments. Those grandchildren blessed her with five great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy in her final years.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, and her brother Robbie. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Nuss, son and daughter-in-law Brian and Norma Branson, grandchildren Mark Nuss (Amelia), Scott Branson (Stephanie), Kevin Nuss (Megan), Lisa Braica (Matthew) and Laura Brignac (Hoyt) and five great-grandchildren: William, Vera and Thomas Nuss, Deva Braica and Bennett Branson.
