Mary was born on June 21, 1927 at Mercy Hospital in Denver, Colorado. She was the only child of Francis Howard App and Sarah Patricia App (nee Kelleher).
In 1945, Mary attended Mount Saint Scholastica College in Atchison, Kansas for one year before graduating from Denver University in 1949. She attained a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was a life-long Catholic.
Mary joined Daniels and Fisher Stores Co. in sales. She was also a fashion coordinator, copywriter for the advertising department, then assistant to the advertising and publicity director. She then joined Capitol Life Insurance Company in 1962 as a copywriter. Mary then became assistant to the advertising and publicity director.
In 1979, Mary was the administrative assistant in the human resources department at Capitol Life. She also became the editor of the company magazine, house organ and newsletter. During that time, Mary worked with artists and typographers on design and production of sales materials. She also completed arrangements and was an onsite assistant during all conventions in various cities. Mary also planned social functions of the company, became manager of the trading post and the employee merchandise outlet for products owned by Gulf and Western.
In 1981, Mary was employed at Buckhorn Petroleum as the accounting department secretary and was an oil and exploration library assistant for the accounting department. Mary was married in March 1985 to Robert Jordan, Senior Vice President for Mountain States Bank in Denver. She retired December 31st of that year from Buckhorn Petroleum.
When she wasn't accomplishing many tasks through wearing different hats, Mary loved opera, theater, and reading. She also enjoyed time with her family, travelling, the Colorado Symphony, and the museums in Denver. She loved the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and anything in her favorite color: RED!
Mary is survived by daughter-in-law Anna Jordan-Helser and husband Gregg Helser; stepsons Michael A. Jordan of Ft. Garland, Colorado and Col. Thomas C. Jordan, Retired, United States Air Force of Sedalia, Colorado and Atlanta, Georgia; two grandchildren Adam Robert Jordan and Lindsay Jordan Ayers; and great-grandchildren Devynn and Emmit Jordan, and Emory and Asher Ayers. A special friend to Mary, Leslie Goodro became like family in Mary’s later years and helped make her life at Brookdale a pleasure.
Mary will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
