Lillian was born to Elsie Hazel and Thomas Blaine Parton on the family farm, 20 miles north of Limon, Colorado on July 1, 1923. The seventh of nine children in the family, she attended a one room prairie schoolhouse until the eighth grade. At that time, she moved to the Los Angeles area to live with her older sister, Ruby, and to attend Manual Arts High school. Lillian felt that she received a good education in that one room schoolhouse because she excelled in high school!
After graduating from high school, Lil went to a dance with her friend Carol, where the girls met two young men--Fay Myers and his cousin Jerome Zevely. Carol and Jerome married shortly thereafter, and so did Fay and Lil--at a chapel in Las Vegas on Aug. 23, 1941. The couple soon left Los Angeles, with thoughts of moving to Kansas City. They never completed their journey to Kansas City, settling in Denver instead. They decided it was a good place to build a life and raise a family. Fay opened Fay Myers Motor Company in 1948 and that same year, Fay and Lil moved to Lakewood with their three young children.
Lillian was kept very busy with raising the family but when she had time to pursue her interests, she enjoyed spending her personal time reading/writing poetry. Lillian lived a rich social life dedicating time to becoming an accomplished bowler, where she collected many trophies, competing and frequently winning local tournaments. In their early years, Fay and Lil were quite the jitterbug dancers. Later, they enjoyed square dancing with their friends.
When they were able to leave the rapidly growing Denver suburbs, they loved spending time in the beauty of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. They spent as much time as possible in the high country, hiking and trail riding. Lillian enjoyed the mountains until late in life climbing Buffalo Mountain on her 80th birthday, almost summiting Shrine Ridge in 2009 at age 86, and making the hike to Lily Pad Lake in Summit County at age 89.
In their retired life, Fay and Lillian were fortunate enough to spend half their time in Florida for many years, dedicating themselves to numerous activities, living a full and active life. They took up tennis and golf, aggressively pursuing these sports with the same dedication that they put into family and business. Lillian loved her beach time, spending many evenings searching for shells and watching sunsets. When they were in Colorado, Fay and Lil cherished time caring for and playing with their much-loved grandchildren, and nephew Shawn and niece Kendell.
Lillian was a champion shopper collecting depression glass, Hummel figurines, and dolls. She continued to explore the world, traveling late in life to Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Greece, and Hungary.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and their spouses, husband Fay, his siblings and their spouses, son Gary, son in-law Dan, and her granddaughter Kari. She is survived by daughters Sherry and Tula (Ken), grandchildren Nellie (Eric), Ryan (Erin), Darin, Mark (Alyssa), Aimee and 5 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
