John (Jack) Richard Schueller was a well loved and respected husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend to hundreds of people. He adored his wife Betty of 41 years who passed in October of 2009. Jack was born in Dubuque, Iowa on August 5, 1925, to Bernard A. Schueller and Viola Kennicker Schueller. Jack received his Bachelors of Arts in 1963 from Iowa State College which opened an opportunity with Hughes Aircraft after the war. Jack spent the vast majority of his professional career with IBM where he worked as an estimator until the day he retired.
A veteran of WWII, Jack served as a Staff Sergeant in the 739th Bombardment Squadron 343 Bomb Group through the most intense period of the war in the European campaigns of the 1940s. He served as a tail gunner In the Air Offensive in Europe, Africa and the Balkans. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal and an American Theater Ribbon. Although he was never wounded he suffered severe hearing loss due to his service while in the turret of the planes.
Jack is survived by his three sisters, Claire Gibbons of Denver CO, Jan Lukoski of Issaquah, WA, Kathleen of WI, and his beloved grandchildren Christine and Jonathan Holloway.
His love of the outdoors was evident in his passion for motorcycling. Jack was quick to agree to a scenic ride through the mountains of Colorado and Utah. Betty and Jack also lived in Tucson for a number of years where they enjoyed golf and their many friends. After retirement, Jack and Betty moved back to Boulder and vacationed in Florida enjoying the pleasant temperatures and breathtaking beauty of the ocean.
Many were taken aback by his untimely death, but are happy for the life he lived. Jack is remembered as an honorable man with many longtime friendships. Both he and Betty shared many special occasions with family and friends, always with a smile, and good humor. Jack will indeed be missed by all of those who knew him.
