Jesse Alan Diamond, 48, of Lafayette, CO took off on the next leg of his journey to shred with the stars on March 8, 2023, from complications related to glioblastoma.
Jesse was born to Lynne and Alan Diamond in San Francisco on March 25, 1974 and grew up in the foothills of Boulder County. Jesse and his younger brother Brandon grew up running wild in the woods surrounding the family cabin and getting into mischief only boys would think of. There was a constant stream of animals including dogs, cats, donkeys, and goats. Jesse maintained an extreme disdain for all goat dairy products throughout the rest of his life.
“Extreme” captures a lot about the things Jesse loved in life. Jesse learned to ski in kindergarten, developing his lifelong love of snow sports, and he grew up loving the wilderness. As Jesse got older, he discovered skateboarding and snowboarding. He ripped up every skate park and handrail in sight in the summers, and launched every windlip he could find at Eldora in the winters. Through it all, Jesse tore down the mountain in his goofy-footed stance, accompanied by a soundtrack of heavy metal, punk rock, or hardcore rap – full send. Jesse was also industrious, bringing his “full send” mentality to his professional life too. As a 14 year old, he shot squirrels with a BB gun, selling the pelts to a neighbor for a quarter apiece, a signal of Jesse’s entrepreneurial streak that later led to his ownership of a Boulder-based print shop.
Throughout his many adventures, he developed lifelong friendships, forging a brotherhood that would define his life and theirs. His biggest adventure, though, was marrying his wife, Alexis. Both graduates of CU-Boulder, they hit it off under the low ceilings of the Walrus Saloon and were immediately inseparable. They were married in the summer of 2007 in Aspen, with a thunderstorm rolling down the valley under the shadow of the Maroon Bells. They settled in the Boulder area, moving into their home in Lafayette, and welcomed daughter Kylie in 2009 and son Ryder in 2013.
Fiercely loyal to those he loved, Jesse was all-in for his friends and family. Jesse adored his kids, and loved the time he spent with them exploring the mountains, golfing, traveling the world, skiing/snowboarding, riding bikes, and cooking. Over the years, Kylie’s foodie tendencies brought a glimmer to her dad’s eye, as did Ryder’s love of sports. He treasured watching his kids learn to do new things, explore, and discover things they love. He even enjoyed the quiet moments just simply lounging around the house with Kylie and Ryder, watching cat videos, and sharing laughs. Jesse’s family was his finest accomplishment.
The lessons from Jesse’s life will be carried on by his family and friends. If there’s a waterfall, hike up to it…and jump in. If there’s a 14-er, wake up at 3 am to beat the crowds and have a beer in your pack for a toast at the top. If you have a chance to hit driver, “let the big dog eat.” Most of all, if there’s a literal or metaphorical powder day, drop everything and go live in the moment.
Jesse is survived by his beloved wife Alexis, his two children, Kylie and Ryder, his parents Lynne and Al, and his brother Brandon.
There will be a celebration of Jesse’s life on Sunday, April 2 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at Boulder Country Club. Contributions in Jesse’s memory to the National MS Society are appreciated (link below).
