H. Lee Fusilier of Boulder, age 92, passed away peacefully at the Sunrise at FlatIrons in Broomfield, CO on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. He summed up his life by saying, "it's something for a poor country boy from Louisiana to become a college professor."
Lee was born on December 30, 1919 to Martin and Emelie Fusilier in Elton, Louisiana. After a childhood of living in the south and working for the WPA, Lee enlisted in the US Army in 1940, serving in the Philippines during WWII as a Corporal in the 4th Photo Detachment. Following his discharge from the Army in December 1945 he enrolled at the University of Colorado in Boulder under the GI bill. Lee earned his bachelor and master degrees in Psychology, then received his JD in Law in 1955. He became a CU professor of Business and Real Estate Law at the School of Business until his retirement in 1989. During his tenure he published several textbooks pertaining to real estate law, helped form the statewide Cooperative Real Estate Education Program and was a contributing author of the Colorado Real Estate Manual.
While attending the university, Lee met his future wife, Ardine Ebel, at Campus Drug, marrying on November 22, 1946. Lee was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Doxsey (husband Stephen) of Erie, and son Fred Fusilier (wife Melonie) of Boulder, along with seven grandchildren – Jocelyn Doxsey (husband Roger) of Brooklyn, NY, Caleb Doxsey of Broomfield, Abigail Doxsey Anderson (husband James) of Denver, Laurel Doxsey of Boulder, and Cees Doxsey of Erie, Virginia & Kathryn Fusilier of Boulder, and one great-granddaughter, Karis Doxsey of Boulder.
Lee was preceded in death by his wife Ardine, his parents, and his three older brothers.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Noon at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 Broadway, Boulder, CO, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00pm, Pastor Mark Twietmeyer, officiating. Internment at Green Mountain Cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
