Greg Kimball of Boulder, CO passed away at home surrounded by his devoted family, two years after a rare diagnosis of brain cancer. He is survived by his wife Lynn, daughters Alexi (Andrew) Perkins of Loveland, CO and Brooke Kimball of Lafayette, CO, sister Gayle Kimball of Chico, CA, and nephew Jed Hate of Chico, CA. His first grandchild is expected in February.
Greg grew up in Los Angeles, CA where he found a love for ham radio and surfing. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University and pursued his first job in electronic engineering in Santa Barbara, CA. In 1979, he moved to Boulder for a position at StorageTek and in 2011 retired from Texas Instruments after a long and fulfilling career. Greg used both his engineering background and creative mind to fix just about anything and design all sorts of unconventional gadgets.
Greg met Lynn at a party in Boulder and was only able to catch her attention after injuring himself on a swing, requiring her nursing skills. They married in 1982 and celebrated their 34th anniversary in September. To make the most of his last years, Greg and Lynn traveled all over the world to explore a variety of cultures and natural wonders.
Greg was an avid cyclist, riding with his engineer and “Seniors on Bikes” buddies all over Colorado and Utah. He had a competitive and playful spirit which kept him young at heart and always ready for adventure. His outgoing and amicable personality was loved by all.
Throughout his adult life, Greg studied metaphysics and his strong spiritual beliefs guided his everyday life. His family greatly benefited from his strength and insight, particularly in difficult situations. Greg’s greatest joy of all was spending time with his three girls.
A ceremony will be planned for this spring; details will be placed at: www.caringbridge.org/public/gregkimball.
