George was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1957 to 1960, on the U.S.S. Leyte (CV-32) and U.S.S. Wasp (CV-18). He and his surviving ex-wife, Maria Schneider (mother of his 3 sons), relocated to Farmington Hills, Michigan in 1967, where he spent some years working in the Cutting Tool Industry and in 1980 he began teaching Manufacturing Processes at Lawrence Technological University from where he fully retired in 2004. George has been published multiple times, authoring books about manufacturing, and in his later years gave back to the educational establishments that helped him along his journey, by donating nearly $600K for scholarship funds to Kent State University, Lawrence Technological University and SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers). His motivation for these donations can be found in his words “To bridge the gap between academia and industry”. His generosity, sense of humor and zest for world travel will be sorely missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
