Our father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend transitioned into everlasting life on Friday Nov 4, 2016 in Boulder Colorado. He leaves behind the love of his life, Lorraine, 3 children, Sandy, Diane and Melanie. 4 grandchildren, Christine, Nicci, Adrienne and Danielle, a brother Albert, and a sister-in-law Helen. He was greeted on arrival by family, friends and numerous dogs that he loved over his 93 years.
After graduating from Rahway High School in Rahway, NJ where he played baseball and ran track, he attended Rutgers University. His college education was interrupted by WWII when he was inducted into the Navy in 1943 as a storekeeper and served on the USS LST 56, LST 702, LST 566, LST 1002 He served during WWII and Korea. He graduated Rutgers with a BS and did his post graduate work at Northwestern when his career brought him from his home state of NJ to IL where he raised his family with Lorraine. He lived in Mt Prospect, then Deerfield, IL gathering many lifelong friendships.
George and Lorraine both never missed an opportunity to drive back to NJ with us 3 children in tow in the family Chrysler where we children fondly remember counting the tunnels on the PA Turnpike and biting into a fried clam roll from Howard Johnsons. Our dad made sure we spent time each summer enjoying the Jersey Shore, playing on the beaches, walking the boards and eating ice cream Wafflewiches.
Over the years George worked for many corporations across the country until taking a position with the Department of the Army working in NJ, NV and CA when he decided to retire after many years and enjoy the love of his 4 granddaughters. George and Lorraine retired to Fountain Hills AZ for many years and finally to Colorado.
Over the years George enjoyed golfing, fishing, horse racing, baseball, a glass of scotch, Lorraine’s eggplant parm, a good hamburger, éclairs and cannoli’s. We know our Dad is enjoying a glass of scotch right now so we ask you raise a glass and toast him.
We would like to thank the incredible staff of ManorCare Boulder for the exceptional loving care they have given George over the past few years.
Also Human Network Systems for their guidance, compassion and love making sure our parents are/were as comfortable as possible over the years.
Services will be held at a later date in New Jersey. Arrangements under the direction of Crist Mortuary, Boulder, CO. Arrangements under the direction of Crist Mortuary, Boulder, CO.
