AKA “Grammy”

1936 – 2017

Fay Tracy, the eldest of four siblings, was borne to Edgar and Frieda Jeffries in Fort Dodge, Iowa on June 23, 1936, and lived a full and fruitful life for 81 years. Fay passed away early Wednesday morning, August 2, 2017, in Boulder Colorado, peacefully, without worry, and family by her bedside.

Fay was married to John A. Tracy, her surviving husband, lifelong companion and best friend, for just shy of 62 remarkable and adventurous years. Fay attended college at the University of Valparaiso, Indiana starting in 1954 where she embarked on earning her college degree. Five homes, four states, and five kids later, Fay earned her college degree from CU in 1978, never losing site of her dream of earning a BS in anthropology. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Natural Hazards Center at CU for 20 years, retiring from work in 1998 but not from remaining active in the community where she supported, defended, and fought for political justice until her passing.

Fay loved gardening, traveling, the arts, community activities, and above all, engaging and participating in her husband’s, five children’s, and twelve grandchildren’s lives. When the term “Grammy” was coined, they must have had Fay in mind as the love and support she displayed to each and every one of her 12 grandchildren, ranging in age from 33 to 13, was simply, as true and deep as humanly possible. Fay’s dedication to her family never waned and grew stronger through the years as her spiritual quest, supported by St. Thomas Aquinas, Light of Christ, and Boulder Community in Discernment, helped guide her through life’s final events and moments, preparing Fay for her next journey.

Fay is survived by her husband John A. Tracy, five children, Mary, John, Cris, Jackie, and Tage, and twelve grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, Mitchel, Paige, Katrina, Claire, Eric, Mackenzie, Madison, Tanner, Karsen, and Brody.

As our family says goodbye to our beloved wife, mom, Grammy, friend, activist, teacher, mentor, and companion, we must remember that although she has moved on from this life, she will never leave our hearts, souls, and spirit. Grammy truly is a part of each and every one of ours’ core essence and spiritual well-being. You will be sorely missed and never, ever forgotten. Love Always – Your Family!

A celebration of Fay’s life will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017, at noon in the 4th Floor Assembly Room at Frasier Meadows Retirement Community. A reception will follow in the 1st Floor Frasier North Community Room. Please join us and celebrate Fay.
