Evelyn was born on February 23, 1921 in Goodland, KS to John L. and Ollie S. (Smith) Hoffman. She attended Goodland Schools graduating from Sherman Community High School in 1938. She taught school in a one room rural school house for one semester, then moved to Boulder to attend Business School. She worked for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator for several years. In 1943, Evelyn worked at Camp Hale as a telephone operator.
On Jan 1, 1944 she married Buel W. Haskins in Goodland, KS. They lived in Glenwood Springs, CO and Clearfield, UT before returning to Boulder. In 1955, Evelyn and her husband opened Haskins Pastry Shop. In 1964, she went to work for the University of Colorado in the Admissions Department, transferring to the School of Pharmacy where she was the Assistant to the Dean. She retired from the University in 1983.
She enjoyed camping and traveling around the United States. She and Buel attended several Elderhostels. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Boulder.
Evelyn is survived by a son, Steven W. Haskins, (Susan) of Boulder; a daughter Susan Martinez, (Rod) of Grand Junction, CO; grandsons Porter Haskins (Elyce) of Mariposa, AZ, Allen Haskins of Boulder, John Martinez (Stephanie) of Centennial, CO, and Christopher Martinez of Grand Junction, CO; great granddaughters Brittany, Nichole, and Samantha Martinez. Surviving also is a sister, Peggy Jewett of Topeka, KS along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Mountain View Memorial Park. A reception will be held at Crist Mortuary immediately following the service.
