Elinor Ann (McKercher) Sorenson, aged 95, died on September 30, 2023. She was born on February 10, 1928, near Manly, IA to Clair and Evelyn (Watkins) McKercher. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 66 years, Charles Manle Sorenson, her eldest son Randall (2005), granddaughter Natalie Sorenson (2020), brother John McKercher, sister Margaret Morgan, and brother Theodore McKercher. She leaves behind her sons Scott, Carl, and Paul, and grandchildren Alden, Morgan, Carly, Erik, and Parker, and great grandchildren Theodore and Noah.
Elinor attended high school in Manly, IA and received a BA in Early Childhood Education from Iowa State Teachers College in 1948.
Elinor and Charles were married August 14, 1949, in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Manly, IA.
Elinor was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years in Colorado, Iowa, and Illinois.
Elinor was very active and travelled to Japan, Taiwan, Tanzania, Turkey, The Holy Land, New Zealand, Poland, France, Italy, Scotland, Denmark, and Switzerland as well as extensively within the US. She loved hiking, and participated in the Bolder Boulder several times, taking first place for her age group in 2011. A sharp observer, Elinor liked to note the species of birds and plants seen while hiking, and enjoyed gardening, baking, and sewing.
After her teaching career Elinor worked with her husband Charles’ consultancy, hosting seminars to help small businesses build successful teams.
Elinor was always an active church member and volunteered in numerous roles everywhere she attended.
