Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, he was the son of Alexander Toth and Isabelle Thompson Toth. The second of five sons, Douglas was raised on his parents farm in Kipling. He graduated with honors from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon with a degree in engineering. He was hired as a geophysicist by Standard / Chevron Oil in Calgary Alberta and later moved to the U.S. in 1962. Douglas married the love of his life Patti Fitzgibbon Toth in New Orleans in 1964. Patti passed away in 1970. Douglas retired after 25 years with Chevron. A long time Metairie resident, he is survived by his daughters Amy Toth Cardinale and her husband Jeffrey Cardinale of Metairie, LA and June Evette McCormick and her husband Padraic McCormick of Boulder, CO. Grandchildren Nicole Gordy and her husband Neil Kawaguchi, Alexander Gordy, Nathaniel Cardinale, Eva Mace, Murphy McCormick, Ashlyn McCormick, Teague McCormick and great-granddaughter Zoey Gordy. He was beloved by his many grandchildren and was more than your average grandpa. He was a part of bedtime book reading, afternoon bike rides, and teaching those valuable life lessons only a grandpa can. Douglas was a brilliant farmer and engineer with endless knowledge of plants, minerals, geography, and basically fixing anything that was broken. One of his favorite hobbies was visiting National Parks and museums with his family. Although not the loudest man in the room, Doug had a sarcastic and quick witted sense of humor that made him someone people just wanted to be around. If you got a chance to share a beer with Doug, you know he was not only a good listener, but he had endless stories of his life that his family is sure to miss. Funeral services will be held at John Calvin Presbyterian church, in Metairie, Louisiana at 2pm Sunday the 25th of September. Douglas will be interred next to his wife Patti at the Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston. The family invites you to share memories, thoughts, and condolences online at Cristmortuary.com.
