Doris was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 27, 1922, to Henry and Eva Francis Warren Roemer. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where Doris attended public schools. Following graduation from high school, she attended Moravian College in Bethlehem, graduating with a diploma in secretarial short hand and typing. She worked for New York Life Insurance Company as executive secretary in New York; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Boulder.
She met her husband Robert (Bob), in 1945 at the home of one of Bob’s relatives in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. They were married on December 22, 1945 in Austin, Texas, and have lived in Boulder since 1970.
Doris enjoyed classical music, opera, fine art, and card games, especially bridge. For many years, she was active in Questers Organization, P.E.O. Philanthropies, and United Methodist Women’s activities at First United Methodist Church in Boulder. She and Bob visited national parks throughout the country and took tours to Europe and Africa.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; her daughter, Celeste, of Tucson, Arizona; her son, David, and his wife, Candyce, their daughter, Cassie, and their son, Adam, all of Yuma, Arizona.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 on Saturday, November 10, by Rev. Merlene Barner in the chapel of Frasier Meadows Manor. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Doris’ memory to First United Methodist Church of Boulder.
