David J Welker

David was born in Oakwood, a suburb of Dayton, Ohio. His parents were J and Annette Welker and he is survived by his wife Julie, daughter Christine, son J, and sister Carol. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Dayton and went on to graduate from Marquette University School of Dentistry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was during his time at Marquette University that he met Julie while both were working at the Pfister hotel.

After completing dental school, David joined the United States Navy and served as a dentist on the USS Ranger, an aircraft carrier. After his service in the Navy he decided to return to Milwaukee to ask Julie to marry him. David dreamed of living near the mountains and they followed his heart to Boulder, Colorado to begin their life together.

David was able to acquire an established dental practice in Boulder where he continued to practice for many years. He provided dental services one day per week for the Boulder County jail. He also served on the Colorado Dental Examiners Board. Upon selling his practice, he continued serving the community as an assistant professor at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine for several years.

One of David’s favorite hobbies included home brewing and he was a nationally certified beer judge. He was a pioneer in the craft beer movement in Boulder and loved conversing with people who shared his passion for good beer.

In his younger years David was an avid skier and enjoyed several of the wonderful ski resorts Colorado has to offer. He also rode dirt bikes and would take annual trips to Moab with his son J along with a few other dentists and their children in the 1980’s - 1990’s.

David found many ways to stay active after retiring from his career in dentistry. He would often say, “I don’t know how I ever had time to work”. David was a dedicated husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
