Catherine Jane Norton

Jane was born December 17th, 1936 in Manhattan, New York the daughter Charles and Elisabeth Norton. She married John Shafer on January 30th, 1962. They divorced in 1981.

She attended Randolph Macon Women’s College and The University of Colorado. She graduated from CU with a degree in Mathematics. Immediately after graduation, she worked in the weights and measure calibration laboratory at the National Bureau of Standards. (Presently called the National Institute of Standards and Technology). After marriage she became a homemaker and mother of six boys. In addition to spending time with her family she enjoyed sharing her love of the arts, puzzles, books and, her beloved cats and dogs.

Jane is survived by five of her sons, five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Her sons: Frank, Edward and his wife Karen, Mark and his wife Dannette, Timothy and his wife Deborah, Daniel and his wife Kathleen. Her grandchildren and great granddaughter are: Travis, his wife Brooke, and their daughter Amariah, Keely, Pierce, Kaitlyn and Grant.

Her parents, sister Mary Elisabeth “Polly” and her son Ray preceded her into death.

A Visitation Service is being held at Crist Motuary Boulder, CO on August 27th, 2015 from 4-7PM. Funeral Service will be at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Boulder, CO on August 28th at 10AM. Committal of Ashes will follow at the Green Mountain Cemetary, Boulder, CO at 1:30PM.
