Anne lived a long and healthy life until pulmonary complications brought a sudden finish to this stage and a journey into the next chapter. Anne was born in Oelwine, Iowa to Herbert and Alvina Nicholas. the family moved shortly after her birth to Denison, Iowa, where she sent her formative and courting years being romanced by the love of her life, Gordon. They were married on June 7, 1959 in Denison.
A few years later, along with her entire family, moved to Boulder, Colorado, where they both lived out their lives, with Gordon preceding her in passing a couple years ago. They were lifelong members of Grace Commons Church where Anne sang in the choir and extends her love of lawn care to the churches landscape care crew. She was a member of Sweet Adeline's and traveled to some distant venues for competitions.
Anne maintained a fastidious home and had a significant collection of antiques - lamps, glass baskets, figurines, a New York city sized Dickens Village, and her beloved shoes. She loved caring for her beautiful yard, but didn't like sharing it with dandelions. She was an avid sports fan and loved the Broncos, Buffaloes, and Nuggets, but often expressed a sentiment that she could coach them all better than what she observed. At a recent rehab facility she coerced a staff member to connect an Ipad to her TV and likely watched her last CU game, with the Buffs eating up the corn. Anne is survived by her son David, her grandsons, Matthew and Benjamin, her siblings, Besse Hardgrove, Jane Vohs, and Stan Nicholas, in-laws and a bevy of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews all of whom received a birthday card on a methodical basis, with a wish and often clothing at least one day before their special day.
A funeral service for Anne will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO 80301. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 10:45 AM to 11:00 AM at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave, Boulder, CO 80301.
