Born Walter Maurice Kisner, Jr. in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Walter Maurice Kisner, Sr. and Josephine Frances (Rossana), the family settled in the Seattle area in 1943. In 1964 Walt wandered into a part-time job at The Fishermen's News, working three hours a day while studying at the University of Washington. He took the helm of the publication in 1968, shaping it into a vital voice for the North Pacific commercial fishing industry until his retirement in 2001.
In 1976 Walt found his companion for life in Sherry Sue (Storrs) Becker and together they raised five children. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughters Andrea Kisner and Lisa Kisner Irvin (David); sons Richard (Arin), Robert, and Brandon Becker; grandchildren Breana Bales and Tyler, Brady, Bryce and Cole Becker; great-grandchildren Carter and Caysen Bales and Josie Becker. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally Sharon (Berger) and his parents, Morris and Jo.
Walt was a friend to many and a guiding light to his family. He will be deeply missed.
