Marilyn (Garwood) Marsh, 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, surrounded by family in Kirkland, Washington. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alan, her son Jason (Christina Starr) Marsh, daughter Jennifer (Zach) Lingley, and grandchildren Evan and Lia Lingley. Marilyn’s parents, and her brother John Garwood, preceded her passing.
Marilyn was born in Iowa City, Iowa on August 16, 1946 to parents Clara and Edward Garwood. She had many fond memories of time spent at the family’s 79-acre farm just outside of town, which she still visited whenever she could.
She and Alan met while both were attending the University of Iowa and they were married in September 1968. Marilyn graduated from UI with a degree in Elementary Education and was a skilled teacher in grades ranging from kindergarten to high school. She left an indelible imprint on numerous students through the years, many of whom she kept in touch with. She retired from teaching in 2013.
Marilyn loved to travel and visited lands both foreign and domestic, from the South Seas to the Caribbean and much of Europe. Most recently, she enjoyed hiking in Austria with her daughter Jennifer, something she had planned to do more of.
Marilyn is remembered by all who knew her as kind-hearted and generous, and for having a wonderful zest for life.
A memorial service for Marilyn will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Lifetime Celebrations by Washelli, 18224 103rd Ave. NE, Bothell, Washington. A memorial service will occur from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, 18224 103rd Ave. NE, Bothell, WA 98011. A reception will occur.
