James passed away peacefully at age 49 with his family by his side from complications due to his Myotonic Dystrophy. He was a fighter living decades past what the doctors expected.
James was the loving son of Sharon Kay Ricketts, long time residents of Bothell, Washington. He is survived by his mother and sisters, Sheryl Anne Ricketts, and Susan Kay Harris. He is preceded in death by his father George Martin Ricketts.
James could often be seen wearing his trademark Georgetown Hoyas jacket and Levi’s, driving around Bothell in his 1974 blue and white Ford F150, with the bumper sticker “Look out, here comes James!”. Like a lot of guys, he loved his truck! When he was no longer able to drive due to his disability his still made daily trips to hang out in it until he could no longer walk. Friends would stop by to hang out with him.
James was a good friend. He had an infallible memory and great sense of humor and had so many funny stories to tell. Many you wish he’d forget. His favorite times were up at Camp Brinkley where he was a camp cook. He was proud of being everyone’s favorite cook. He had many specialties but was especially famous for his carrot cake. He was an avid Boy Scout reaching the highest level of Eagle Scout and earned the prestigious Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor. He proudly displayed his numerous merit badges in his home. He also loved to play video games, and watch movies and sports.
Despite gradually losing the ability to use his body fully he maintained a positive attitude and was an inspiration to many for his strength of perseverance. His spirit is now free from the restraints of his body. There will never be another James, he was a unique individual and will be missed.
