Dorothy was born on May 17,1928 to Harold Jacob and Helen Patton Norton in Columbus Indiana.
She was the 2nd of 3 children: older sister Patricia and younger brother Bill. She was raised there until her parents divorced and her mother moved the family to Hartford Connecticut. The family later moved to the Seattle area. Dorothy attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She then graduated from the University of Washington, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1950.
She joined the army in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1956. After the service she traveled through Europe then moved back to Columbus Indiana, close to family. While there she furthered her education and became a Public Health nurse.
She continued her career in public health in Indiana then in Minnesota where she worked her way up to Assistant Director of Public Health in Rochester Minnesota. She retired in 1990.
While in Columbus Indiana she met and married Dick Drummond in 1965.Their's was a happy marriage. They enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, skiing, and entertaining friends and family at their apartment and house in Rochester. They bought a house in Peterson which they were renovating when Dick died in 1994.
Dorothy continued with the renovations and moved to Peterson. There she enjoyed small town life, including church socials and studies, bird watching and feeding, and community gatherings including Domelgog an annual parade and festival.
In 2008 she moved to the Seattle area close to family. She settled in and made friends, joined social group, went to lectures, shopped at Third Place Books and spent time with family. She lived independently at Woodland Terrace to the age of 95 until November of 2023 when her health declined. She spent her last months receiving the best, compassionate care at Gentle Senior Care where she died on March 25, 2024.
She was an avid reader, a life long learner, lover of Tolkien, thoughtful gift giver and card sender.
She was a good baker and knitter and known for her wild rice recipe.
She was a cat lover and owned many throughout her life: the most famous being Sammy who walked on a leash and went camping and traveling with her and Dick, and the last being Nikki who was well known at Woodland Terrace as she would take her for walks in the hall on her walker.
She is survived by a large extended family, and friends who do love her so.
Hers was a life well lived.
