Delno Dean Benson (Del) passed away at home in Bothell WA on Dec 28, 2023, shortly after his 91st birthday. Internment and memorial service the second week of Jan 2024. Del enjoyed the comfort of family and many friends in his final days.
Del was born Dec 18, 1932 in Graceville MN. His hometown of Sisseton, SD didn’t have a hospital. Son of Ellanora M. A. (Smith) and Myron C. Benson, eldest grandson of Lloyd and Anna Smith, all of Sisseton SD. Even though his family moved around looking for work, Sisseton always felt like home. After his Army tour in Alaska during the Korean War, Del returned home to marry his high school sweetheart Margie Marvick.
The young couple packed their few belongings and moved to Seattle, WA. They briefly stayed with Ellanora and Myron, and Del’s young sister Vickie. They bought a house at the top of Juanita Drive in Kirkland and lived there for several decades. Del and Margie raised daughter Laurie (Berg) and son Greg Benson. Like his uncle Lloyd, Del had a barbershop for many years. When he sold it, the family packed the truck and trailer for a summer vacation to discover the northern Midwest. Del retired from Boeing in the mid 90s. The couple bought a home in Wandering Creek, a community they came to love in Bothell, WA. They often traveled with their fifth wheel trailer, to CA, AZ or the ocean.
