Philip Costa of Woburn, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, at the remarkable age of 100. He joyfully celebrated his centennial birthday in December, surrounded by family and friends who cherished his vibrant spirit.
Phil was the devoted husband of the late Mary Costa (DiGiovanni) and a proud father to Vincent and his late wife Mary Costa of Abington, Diane Tranghese of Medford, and the late Philip Jr. He was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories.
As a grandfather, Phil took immense pride in his family, cherished by Carla Tranghese and her partner Tanya Perez, Vincent Costa Jr. and his wife Annmarie of Franklin, Joseph Costa and his wife Melissa of Hanover, and Lauren Lauranzano and her husband Nathan of Beverly. He also enjoyed the joy of being a great-grandfather to Meghan and Erin of Franklin.
A lifelong North Ender, Phil was proud of his roots and remained an active member of the Madonna Della Cava Society, which he considered his second home. He loved spending time with friends and sharing lively discussions about sports, politics, and stories from the past.
Phil had a passion for music, particularly do-wop, and was an enthusiastic fan of Fats Domino, bringing smiles and laughter to those who knew him.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. To his family, Phil was more than just a father; he was a friend, a mentor, and a guiding light. "Dad, we love you and we'll miss you dearly. You were a great father and friend, and we know that when you get to heaven, you’ve already received your invitation to the Hall of Fame for Fathers."
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 8:30am to 10:30am in St. Leonard Church, 320 Hanover St., Boston, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Services will conclude with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
