Delia, Michael William, of Richmond, CA, formerly of Winthrop, passed away at his home after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Meredith J. Delia. He is also survived by his parents, Michael J. Delia and Diane A. Delia of Winthrop, his sibling, Cameron J. Delia of Cambridge, his beloved nephews and nieces, parents-in-law, siblings-in-law, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Born in Malden on November 26, 1985, Michael was raised in the town of Winthrop. He was a transit junkie from the time he was a boy, and he began his career in transit working as a bus operator in Winthrop at 18 years old. Michael graduated from Suffolk University with a degree in Communications and Journalism, and he married the love of his life, Meredith, in April 2013. In 2014, he relocated with his wife to the San Francisco area to work as a transit operator, which he considered to be his dream role. Affectionately known to many as “Mr. Boston,” he proudly operated many modes of transit throughout the city. At the time of his passing, Michael was employed by the San Francisco Metropolitan Transit Authority in the office of the Chief of Staff.
Other than spending time with his wife and family, nothing made Mike happier than being back home in his beloved Boston.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel in Winthrop on Wednesday, September 20th at 11:00am. All family and friends are welcome. A burial at Winthrop Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's honor to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or Market Street Railway.
