Marjorie Helen Bonnell, 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, with her beloved Boston skyline in view. Born to Wilfred and Nora (McNamara) Bonnell in 1928. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, her brothers William Bonnell and Leonard Bonnell, and her sister-in-law Alice. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Carol T. Bonnell of Westport, MA.
Known affectionately as "Auntie Margie" to her seven nieces and nephews, as well as her many grandnieces and grandnephews, Marjorie will be fondly remembered as a stylish, independent, and caring—yet feisty—city girl, deeply rooted in Medford and Boston. Her presence at family holiday gatherings was a cherished tradition, arriving with shopping bags brimming with presents and treats. Memories of her excursions with loved ones to Fenway Park, Boston Garden, the Swan Boats, and the Enchanted Village will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Marjorie dedicated the majority of her career to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles in Boston, a role she fulfilled with distinction despite never receiving her own driver’s license. After retirement from RMV, Marjorie worked at MGH, first as an employee then later as a volunteer. Marjorie cultivated a circle of lifelong friends who adored her, a testament to her vibrant spirit. A bit of an icon in her own right, Marjorie’s absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 10 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 68 William Cardinal O’Connell Way, Boston, MA 02114. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Rd, Medford, MA 02155. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marjorie’s name to either Mass General Hospital, Boston or CareConnect, Woburn
