Following her mother’s early passing, Marie was raised with 15 of her mother’s siblings, she was always considered to be a sibling rather than a niece. Marie was a mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend, peer and mentor. Marie dedicated her life to God and was a faithful servant at Bethel Baptist Church where she was a member of the senior program and sang in the choir. Marie loved and supported her family in all of their endeavors. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. In her 60’s Marie went back to school to earn her GED. Marie worked in the greater Boston Public School district as a cook until her retirement and was sought after for her famous “Aunt Marie’s carrot cakes”. Marie was considered to be a safe haven for those in need and demonstrated that by fostering several children, who maintained contact with her into her later years. She loved to watch her favorite daytime “stories” and had an opportunity to meet some of the cast members when she travelled to California to visit her granddaughter. Marie lived a beautiful, fruitful life of 97 glorious years.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Pendarvis, son Douglas Pendarvis, granddaughter Germain Stokes, 14 sibling aunts and uncles and her partner in life Jesse (Leroy) Milton. She is survived by her children Haroon Rashid, Cynthia Pendarvis, Joe (Joanne) Pendarvis, and her uncle John (Buster) Jones, 100 plus, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation for Marie will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Twelfth Baptist Church, 160 Warren St, Roxbury, MA. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Marie will be laid to rest in St. Michael Cemetery, 500 Canterbury Street, Boston, MA 02131
