Born in Ariano Irpino, Italy in 1919 she immigrated to Boston in 1955 with her husband and four young children. She survived World War II as a young mother of three, while her beloved Jerry was fighting for his country. She lived in two centuries, seeing the newest of medical inventions, the television, computers, and so many new technologies. She liked to call herself a “Nonna moderna” and prided herself on connecting and joking with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an amazing storyteller, often acting out her tales with flair. She often reminded her family that she was a “fury” to be reckoned with (a play on her maiden name DeFuria). Just under 5 feet tall, she was a force of nature when protecting her loved ones. She leaves an enormous whole in the hearts of each of us. We will be telling your stories for years to come, Nonna.
