James "Jimmy" K. Wong

James “Jimmy” K. Wong, age 97, of Brookline, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Loving husband to the late Soo Wah Wong, adored father of Alan J. Wong and his wife, Lily Hu, of Brookline, Lana S. Wong and her husband Ross Bellar, of Brookline, Bernice Wong Laird and her husband James H. Laird, of New Canaan, CT, and Donald M. Wong, of Brookline. Cherished grandfather of Dave Wong, James Laird Jr., Christopher Laird, Jessica Laird-Gion, and Sam Bellar; and loving great grandfather of Nathan Wong and Holly Wong.

As an entrepreneur, Jimmy was the longtime owner of the China Sails Restaurant in Chestnut Hill, MA until it’s closing in 1994.

Jimmy was a proud veteran of World War II. He served honorably in the U.S. Army throughout Europe, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

Jimmy served as a President of the Boston Wong Family Benevolent Association and was active in various groups including the On Leong Chinese Merchants Association and the Hoy Ting Association. He had many lasting fond memories of playing 9-man volleyball with the Hoy Ting Association volleyball team.

Funeral services will be on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 10 am at the J.S. Waterman-Langone Chapel, 580 Commercial Street, Boston, MA 02109. Burial will follow at the Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Ave., in Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
