Sarah Hunt (Keeton) Martin departed this life in Booneville on April 8, 2013, at the age of 87. Mrs. Martin, a lifelong resident of Booneville, was born October 6, 1925. Sarah graduated from Booneville High School during WWII. She attained a bachelors and a masters degree from the University of Mississippi. For over 25 years she taught at Booneville High School. After retiring from teaching, she and her husband Dewey managed the Indianola Pecan House in Barnes Crossing Mall in Tupelo for many years. Sarah was a wonderful cook. She baked many cakes and pies for her family and friends. Until the last few years, she was “in charge” of the kitchen at First Baptist Church when there was any type of gathering.
Funeral services will be at 11:00A.M. Thursday, April 11, 2013, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Lynn Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Booneville Cemetery.
She is survived by three daughters, Diane (Eddie) Miller of Gulfport, Linda (Joe) Camacho of Springfield, VA, and Genia (Danny “Shorty”) Mincey of Corinth; seven grandchildren, Owen (Hollie) Miller of Gulfport, Camille (Faris) Hawit of Owings, MD, John Davd Camacho of New York, NY, Angelia (Jesse) Huff of Kossuth, Dannah Mincey of Kossuth, Danny Mincey, II of Memphis and Dewey (Liz) Mincey of Kossuth ; seven great grandchildren, Martin Merritt, Keeton Merritt, Henry Miller, Hayden Huff, Luke Hawit, Nolan Hawit and South Mincey.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Lindsey and Ruth Keeton; her husband, Dewey Martin to whom she was married for 62 years before his passing in 2006; two grandsons, Martin Reid Mincey and Matthew Lindsey Miller; two brothers John and Jimmy Keeton; one sister –in-law, Louise Keeton and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, George and Artie Martin
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the funeral home and visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Danny Mincey, II, Dewey Mincey, Owen Miller, John David Camacho, Jesse Huff, Danny Mincey, Joe Camacho and Eddie Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be William Scott, Bill Barnett, Jason Yarber, Jackie Smith, Travis Browder, Bob Griffin, Jerry Keeton and David Bolen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Booneville.
