Mae Dean Green Lambert, 73, has passed from this life after an extended illness. She was born July 7, 1941 to Joe C. Green and Delia Ledbetter Green of Jumpertown. She went home to be with her Lord Oct. 23, 2014.
The youngest of 10 children, Mae Dean was a 1960 honors graduate of Jumpertown High School where she was elected the first Homecoming Queen in the school’s history.
She received her Bachelors of Science Education from Delta State Teachers College in 1963 where she was a Charter Member of Kappa Delta. She completed her Masters of Education at Ole Miss in 1976.
A lifelong teacher, she began her career in 1963 teaching first grade at Cromwell Elementary in Memphis, TN for one year. She then moved to Baldwyn Elementary where she taught 2nd grade until she moved to Jumpertown Elementary where she would teach 3rd grade from 1966 until her retirement in 1995 after 32 years in the classroom. She served as Elementary Principal from 1979-1982. She continued to teach after her retirement as a tutor in the 21st Century Grant program after school.
From 1973 until April 2014, she was an Adult Basic Education teacher at Northeast Community College where she was a Certified Star Reading Teacher. This fulfilled her goal and prayer of teaching for 50 years. Mae Dean proclaimed to be a “God-called” teacher and never tired of helping her students and stopped only because of her heart condition. She loved all her elementary kids and adult students!
Her professional honors included: Prentiss County’s Outstanding teacher in 1982, Who’s Who and American Teacher in 1994, and Outstanding Adult Basic Education Teacher for the Northern Half of MS in 2000.
Her hobby was antiquing and she took great pride in her home and yard. She simply loved to work. She was lifelong member and Sunday school teacher at Jumpertown United Methodist Church where she served passionately.
A celebration of her life will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 26, 2014, at McMillan Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Franklin officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by a nephew, Ronnie Sweeney and a final farewell will be delivered by a nephew, Tim Green. Burial will be in Jumpertown Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of over 50 years, Wade Lambert who passed away in January of 2014.
Three sisters: Ruby Smart, Frances Moore, Gladys Brown.
Three brothers: Harvey Green, Wallis (Hoss) Green, and Bobby Green.
She is survived by the loves of her life- her 3 sons: Mitch Lambert (Denise) and their daughters Paige and Meg, Shea Lambert (Brenda) and their children Beth, Gage, and Alex along with Beth’s children Anna Lauryn and Larry Wayne, and Trey Lambert (Brandi) and their daughter Grace.
Two Step-children: Theresa Lambert and Wade Lambert (Conchetta).
Two brothers: Joseph Morton (Whim) Green, and Bud Green.
One sister: Myrtle Blassingame.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Saturday and until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
