Surrounded by her precious children and family, Lila Jean Woodruff Blassingame left her earthly home and looked full upon her Saviors’ face on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. She was the ninth of ten children born at home on May 1, 1935, in Glen, MS to the late John Wister Woodruff and Modena Ann Burcham Woodruff. She was a member of Pisgah Community Church.
Jean’s love for and dedication to her Lord was carried over into her love and dedication for her family. Her sharing of love and compassion while remaining firm but kind guided her children from birth to adulthood. She was a true living example of Proverbs 31: 25-28. Her love extended beyond family to the many friends she taught, mentored, prayed for, sang with, cooked for, and cared for.
Jean began her working career on the family farm; she was a nurse’s aide at Corinth Hospital, taught at Jumpertown Headstart and worked for the Booneville School District. She spent her last years doing what she loved most – playing music, performing, working crossword puzzles, telling stories and spending time with family and friends.
Jean had many titles – daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana/Sippi, teacher, singer, musician, and friend. She was loved by everyone who met her.
She is survived by her children, Cathy June (Gary) Ross, Steve (Annett) Treece, Jackie (David) Thomasson, and Scott (Amy) Blassingame; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, ten great-greatgrandchildren; her brother Elder Cecil (Willa) Woodruff; daughters-in-law, Shirley Blassingame and Sherri Treece; son-in-law, Terry Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 39 years Jack Blassingame; her children Patsy Martin, Jeffrey Treece, Jimmy Guy Blassingame, Eddie Treece and two infant children; her granddaughter, Nancy Calvery; three brothers and five sisters.
Services will be held at McMillan Funeral Home on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. with a celebration of life service to follow with Bro. Trey Lambert officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jory Treece, Grant Martin, Britt Treece, Alex Blassingame, Will Phillips, Andrew Blassingame, Lane Phillips, Ben Blassingame, John Blassingame, Buck Phillips and Steve Treece.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jean’s memory be made to Gideon International or Pisgah Community Church.
