Edward “J.D.” McKinney, 75, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born January 14, 1938, to Shelton and Bessie McKinney in Yalobusha County, MS. He was a 1958 graduate of New Site High School where he was an outstanding basketball player, and met and married his high school sweetheart, Betty Sue Nicholson. They Made their home in the Hills Chapel Community of Prentiss County, and J.D. was a member and Deacon at Martin Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
He worked as a skilled pattern designer at Prentiss Manufacturing and taught the technique to other, and his ability to growing large gardens and truck patches provide an abundance of food for his family, neighbors and friends to enjoy. J.D. was also an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed both with his son and grandson.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, January 18, 2013 at McMillan Funeral Home with Mr. Matthew Pharr delivering the eulogy and Bro. Rodney Brazil officiating. Burial will be in the Martin Hill Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Betty Sue; one son, Donald (Beckie); one grandson, John Baxter McKinney; one sister, Marie Strickland; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends from all walks of life.
Preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Houston, Haskel, Archie, Claston, Irvin and L.B.; one sister, Charlene Chaffin; one infant daughter, Glenda Ruth.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at McMillan Funeral Home and until service time on Friday.
Pallbearers are Dan Crabb, Gerald Dodds, Jackie Nix, Benny Nix, Ben Stennett, and Mark Walden.
