Jeff was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 7, 1936 where he grew up with his sister Carol and his parents Don and Claire Bostock. He graduated from Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, MD. He went to Penn State University where he studied Industrial Engineering and played lacrosse for the Nittany Lions. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and the Skull and CrossBones Society. It was at Penn State that he met the love of his life-Dorothy (Dot) Allison Bostock. After graduation, they married in 1957 and moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee where Dot taught elementary school and Jeff began his life’s work at the Oak Ridge National Security Complex. They raised three children Debbi, Nancy, and Ken in Oak Ridge. He now has eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren with more on the way!
Jeff dedicated his career to achieving safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrence. Jeff retired from Lockheed Martin Energy Systems Inc in 1997 as vice president for Engineering and Construction with responsibilities for all engineering activities at the Oak Ridge Nuclear complex, including serving as VP of defense and manufacturing and manager of the Oak Ridge Y-12 plant, a nuclear weapons fabrication and manufacturing facility. Previously he was manager of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant from 1989-1992. He also served on the National Research Council and other national committees dedicated to addressing proliferation concerns and helping the former Soviet Union nations in protecting their nuclear weapons materials. Jeff was known to his co-workers as a skilled communicator and a compassionate leader who cared deeply for those with whom he worked.
Jeff enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at the beach. Numerous summers at Pawleys Island, Hilton Head Island and Seabrook Island made beautiful memories for all. Jeff loved to cook and share wine with friends and family. He and Dot had a wonderful group of friends from the Oak Ridge “dinner club” which led to lifelong friendships that he treasured. Jeff and Dot learned to sail at Concord Yacht Club. He skippered many a race and even sailed in the FJ Nationals. He loved sailing in the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Captiva Island, FL, the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia and on his favorite lake, Watts Bar, in Tennessee. Some of his most treasured times were with sailing friends from around the globe. Jeff also enjoyed serving in the various churches that he attended throughout his life including Chapel on the Hill, Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Church of Our Savior, Johns Island, South Carolina.
Although he lived for nearly forty years in Oak Ridge, he also called Paducah, Kentucky and Seabrook Island, South Carolina home before moving to The Arlington in Naples, Florida with Dot.
He is survived by his children Debbi Bostock Herts and her husband Michael Herts; Nancy Bostock Porter and her husband Jim Porter, Ken Bostock and his wife Amber Bostock.
