Zeny was born in the Philippines on April 30, 1946 to the late Antonio and Rosario Torres. Zeny is survived by brothers, Oliver and Renato and sisters, Iluminada and Teresita. Her other late siblings were Luzviminda and Adelaida.
Zeny’s primary education was at Ladislao Diwa Elementary School and secondary education was at Cavite High School, Class of 1962. She completed her studies in Electricity and Electronics at Belle Howell Schools, De Vry Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois. She also attended Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California.
During her younger days, at High School, she was a track and field athlete and liked playing in group band, excelling in drum and guitar accompaniments. She went on a band tour outside the country including during the Vietnam War years. After migrating to the United States, she joined the United States Army, and served as Teletype Maintenance Technician Specialist of the US Army Communications Command in the Pentagon Telecommunication Center in Washington, D.C. between 1971 to 1974. Zeny was also a graduate of the Non-Commissioned Officers Education, US Army Southeastern Signal School at Fort Gordon, Georgia in 1973 and later upon her honorable discharge in April, 1977 as Specialist 6, Regular Army, she joined the U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) in San Diego and remained with the command until her federal service retirement.
Zeny enjoyed all kinds of music particularly oldies (1950s, 60s and 70s). She also enjoyed playing at Viejas Casino. She was very active in organizing and coordinating special events for the CHS Class of 1962 as well as the Block Rosary of San Diego.
