Wilma Lovinia Clarke was born February 12, 1935 in Colon, Panama. Wilma immigrated to the United States at the age of 12 years old and settled in New York City, New York with her family. She graduated from Julia Richmond High School in 1954. After high school, Wilma enlisted in the United States Air Force, stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. In 1958, Wilma left the Air Force and gave birth to twin daughters Diane and Denise. In 1959, she gave birth to her son Steven. After her tour in the military, Wilma worked for the United States Post office for over 30 years. After retiring from the post office in 1990, Wilma moved to California with her daughter Diane, son-in-law Michael and grandson Ryan. In retirement, she love to share "her" stories of her past with all of her fellow residents and both assisted living facilities. Everyone knew "Ms. Wilma" from the staff to the Director. However, in retirement she was most social, kind and generous person. She enjoyed her QVC, HSN and MSNBC. Always a well-informed person, Wilma enjoyed adding to her wealth of knowledge. Retirement afforded her the time to enjoy that experience and provided one more opportunity to look ahead at what life might offer her. Wilma Clarke passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 29, 2018 at the age of 83 surrounded by her family.
She is preceded in death by her mother Olga Farrell Marcano, father, Enrique Marcano, sister Vilma Walford, brother Alvin Lawrence and grand-daughter Cheri Desiree Clarke. She is survived by her twin daughters, Denise Eskew of Chula Vista, CA, Diane (Michael) McKenzie of Chula Vista, CA her son Steven (Evelyn) Clarke of Fort Washington, MD, her grandchildren, Nicole Ward of Chula Vista, CA, Kristina Robert of Baltimore, MD, Ryan (Marisol) McKenzie of Chula Vista, CA, and Dominique Desiree Clarke, her great-grandchildren, Kiara, Kailey, Charlize and Kadence, niece Yara Walford, great-nephew Devon and great-niece Chelsea in addition to a host of family and friends who loved her.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens located at 3838 Bonita Road in Bonita, CA 91902 on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 12 noon. Wilma will be interred at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA at 2pm. Flowers may be sent to Glen Abbey. Other donations may be accepted on behalf of Wilma at Paradise Valley Village and Paradise Valley Manor in National City and/or Brookdale Senior Living in Oceanside, California.
