William Mateo Wegener, at the age of 74 passed away on August 17, 2022. It was thirteen years after his lung transplant. He was given a second chance at life. Every year was a blessing and he was thankful for every moment.
William was a good man. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a caring son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved collecting toy cars, he loved his family and loved his faith. Faith and family played a great role in his life after his lung transplant, it kept him fighting.
William was born on April 20, 1948 to Juanita Mateo in Olongapo City, Philippines. He attended Asinan Elementary School and Provincial High School. After graduating high school he joined the United States Navy in 1968.
In the third grade William said that he was going to marry Miriam Lazarte. On November 29, 1976, William and Miriam were married in Olongapo City, Philippines. Together they have 3 children, Ray, Warren and Georgia, and 9 grandchildren.
In 1992, William retired from the Navy, he served 25 years. He went on to work at the Supply Depot 32nd Street Naval Station. Then joined the Merchant Marines. In 2006 he retired from the Merchant Marines after 10 years due to health issues.
William is predeceased by his mother Juanita Mateo. He is survived by his wife Miriam, children Ray, Warren and Georgia, and brother Johnny Krinke.
