Thomas Pioquinto Tubon, passed peacefully into God's hands on April 2, 2016 surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Beloved son of Andres Tubon and Luisa Pioquinto Tubon, he was born on March 7, 1933 in Tayug in the province of Pangasinan, Philippines. He was one of 10 children in the family,- with 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
In 1955, at the age of 22 he enlisted in the US Navy at Sangley Point, Cavite in the Republic of the Philippines. During his 20 years of active duty, he served his country during the Korean and Vietnam wars onboard the USS Hamner (DD718), the USS Conflict (MSO426), the USS Persistent (MSO491), the USS Catamount (LSD17), the USS Sutter (LST1150), the USS Bradley (DE1041). He received numerous awards for service, including the National Defense Service Medal, and 5 Bronze Stars on the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. After retiring from active duty, he worked for the Veterans Administration for 20 additional years.
He is survived by his spouse and eternal love, Magdalena Calderon Tubon who were married in 1959, and shared 57 years together. Thomas and Magdalena had six children: Virgilio Tubon (55), George & John Tubon (twins, 49), Judy Tabon (47), Marilou Bullard (45), and Thomas Tubon, Jr (43). In addition, he is survived by 14 grandchildren: Patrick Tabon, Janell Tabon, Jazmin Tabon, Jailey Tabon, Joshua Paguirigan, Tiana Paguirigan, Alexandria Paguirigan, Brandon Bullard, Andrew Tubon, Ryan Tubon, Anthony Tubon, Christian Tubon, Sarah Tubon, and Gryffin Tubon; and 1 great grandchild, Evie-Marie Tabon.
He is remembered as a quite, gentle and loving husband, father, and grandfather who always put the needs of others before his own. His is remembered for his strength of character, virtue, perseverance, and quiet resolve. He was a pillar of strength in the family, letting his actions speak, and teaching us all never to give up on our hopes and dreams. He had a passion for cooking and gardening. He spent countless hours tending to his vegetables, exotic orchids, and tropical fruit trees that blanketed his garden. His memory and spirit live on in each of us. God bless you, and may you rest in the arms of the angels. Our love for you will spring eternal.
