Simeona Bolasco Rayos

Our Rayos family matriarch SIMEONA BOLASCO RAYOS expressed her pure love with and through her 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was lovingly known to her family as ‘Mommy.’

Together with her late husband, Teofilo, Simeona left the idyllic life in Burgos, Pangasinan, Philippines in 1985 to join her children in the United States—Teresita, Esperanza, and Emma. Her son George and daughter-in-law Ofelia moved to San Diego from the Philippines in 2010.

A devout Catholic, she cared about family right next to God. She prayed for the health and well-being of her loved ones daily, proudly displaying photos of each one in her bedroom. A bystander would brand her as ‘overzealousness over her family’s welfare,’ which was simply her genuine way.

Simeona had countless friendships, mostly at Friendly Care and Horizon Adult Day Care Center and several neighborhoods throughout San Diego county. She connected to her community through food. She shared fruits and vegetables from her garden, and taught non-Filipino neighbors about her culture through cooking. Cementing the connection further, she sent hand-written Christmas cards to these friends.

When Simeona was able, she loved to travel, see new sights, and have her picture taken near beautiful flowers and scenes. To her, these pictures were just as important as the experiences. She organized these photos into albums; they were proof that she lived a full life.

Simeona’s legacy of love and caring will stay aflame in her family’s hearts:

She is now reunited in heaven with her husband Teofilo (2003), daughter Teresita (1997), and seven siblings.
