ROMEL PEREZ MENDOZA
MAY 16, 1947 – JUNE 9, 2023
Romel was born on May 16, 1947 in Moncada, Tarlac, Philippines to Doroteo Mendoza and Manuela Mendoza. He was the eldest of eight siblings, Arturo, Miriam, Nancy, Rudy, Eliza, Ester, and Reynaldo.
He studied Marine Engineering and worked in U.S. Naval base in Subic Bay, Philippines. He met his future wife, Lolita in Manila, Philippines where they exchanged their vows on December 13, 1970. They moved to Olongapo City where they started and raised their family. They were blessed with four children, a daughter, Anna Lynn, and three sons, Roberto, Romel, Jr., and Dennis.
To provide a better life for his family, he made a sacrifice and looked for work in the Middle East and got hired in Saudi Arabia in the cities of Dharan and Riyadh from 1978 to 1986 and 1989 to 1992 respectively.
While at home with his family, he became an active member and past President of Subic Tambuli Lions Club, an organization that provides free medical and dental services to the remote areas in Subic and Olongapo City. He was also the past President of Sta. Monica Residents Association, an organization of the subdivision where he and his family resided.
In 1994, they migrated to California and called Hayward their home for 12 years until they moved to San Diego in 2006 in which they considered their home since.
Romel is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lolita Mendoza; and his children and their spouses Anna Lynn & Augusto Banayat; Roberto & Glenda Mendoza, Romel, Jr. & Jovy Mendoza, and Dennis & Melody Mendoza; grandchildren Chairmane, Marcfilo Daniel, Merylle Danica, Myka Denise, Christian Jay, Jomhel Rovic, Andrew James, Ashley Nicole, Darren Jerrick, Jewel Rose, Mason Dylan, Aiden Lance, and Quinn Veronica.
A visitation will occur on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 05:00 PM to 09:00 PM at Magnolia Room of Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. Interment for Romel will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary after the celebration of life that will occur at 10:00 AM at Mater Dei Catholic Church, 1571 Magdalena Ave., Chula Vista, CA 91913.
Serving as pallbearers are Roberto Mendoza, Romel Mendoza, Jr., Dennis Mendoza, Augusto Banayat, Jomhel Rovic Mendoza, and Pabbie John Perez.
