Roderick "Derick" Hernandez Divina was born March 27, 1981 to Rod and Del Divina. He as born in San Diego at Balboa Naval Hosptial and raised in San Diego and in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya in the Philippines. Roderick grew up the middle son in a family of three boys that also included his older brother Rodel and younger brother Rodrigo (JR)
Roderick finished High School at St. Catherine's School in 1998 and went on to complete a technical degree at System's Technology Institute in Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines in 1999.
Roderick was a loving and caring father to his 4 children, Joshua Vincent (d), Jacob Justin, Ashley and Emily.
Roderick also served in the United States Navy from 2002 to 2012 and the Navy Reserve from 2012 to 2013, serving as a Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) Second Class (Surface Warfare). His duty stations included Navy Recruiting Region West, Navy Recruiting District San Diego, USS MILIUS (DDG 69), USS CORONADO (AGF-11), USS BARRY (DDG 52)
His many medals include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist.
Some of his other accomplishments include: Navy Recruiting District San Diego’s 2011 Enlisted Diversity Recruiter of the Year, Zone 3 Recruiter of the Month for Jan/Feb/May/Jun/Aug 2011, Expertly enlisted 23 highly qualified diversity applicants into Naval Service in 2011, 2007 Western Pacific Deployment and 2008 Rim of the Pacific Exercise.
In addition to his busy family and work life, some of his hobbies included fishing, riding his motorcycle, working out, sky diving, cooking, bbq-ing, playing video games, watching movies and karaoke.
Roderick passed way on June 25th 2013 in San Diego, California. He is survived by his parents, Rod and Del Divina, his brothers Rodel and Rodrigo “JR” Divina, Hazel Divina (sister-in-law), children Jacob, Emily and Ashley, grandmother Cezarina Hernandez, and numerousl aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service will be at St. Michael Catholic Church in San Diego on Monday July 8th, 2013 at 10:00.
He will be inurned at the private family cemetery in Labni, Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines.
