Rebecca Sue Watson (Becky), a bright, generous spirit and great friend to many, passed away on October 29, 2021 at her home in Jamul after a short illness. She was born in San Diego, California to Willard and Glendon Layton on April 11, 1950. Raised in Bonita, she attended Hilltop High, graduated from Cal Western University with a degree in education and a masters in counseling. In 1971, she married John Watson, the love of her life, and they lived in Jamul for 43 years. She taught kindergarten and elementary school in Santee for 25 years. Horses and horseback riding were her passion, especially riding in the Cuyamaca mountains. She and John were active in the Jamul Trails Council. Her dogs and horses were the most pampered animals on earth and would accompany them each summer to their Idaho home. John and Becky loved camping in Baja and made numerous trips to Mexico, Costa Rica and Hawaii. Becky loved estate sales and thrift stores, and also the wonders of the natural world and birdwatching. With her sense of humor, kindness, optimism and loyalty, Becky had many lifelong friends. Her husband, John, passed away in 2017. She is at peace now that she has joined him and met her beloved animals on the rainbow bridge. She is survived by sister Anne Halstead, Discovery Bay, CA, sister and brother-in-law, Pam & Wiley Hampton, Seattle WA, niece and husband, Debbie and Doug Walker, Morgan Hill CA, and nephew and wife, Mike and Kelly Halstead, Alamo, CA, and four great nieces and nephews. Her dog, Owen, survives her and has a home with Debbie and Doug. A celebration of life has already taken place at one of her favorite horseback riding trailheads.
