Grandpa,

My earliest memory of us together was in 2001. We were headed to Hawaii for my dad's retirement ceremony and i  remember I  didn't want to go because  i  didn't want to miss school and i  was afraid  of riding an airplane for the first time. I  remember when we both arrived at LAX, Uncle Oscar told me that you didn't want to go as well. You and I  kept taking turns saying "let's go home now" before we boarded the plane. 

Thank you for always just being there. Every time we would visit we would usually just watch basketball games together in the living room, or you would be reading the newspaper. Your presence was always more than enough.  Rest easy grandpa. Until next time.

As far as I can remember Uncle Mundo was a big part of my life. A good friend to my dad ,and a second father to me sharing his wisdom. He will greatly be missed as  I have my memories to comfort  me. May your soul rest in GOD’s eternal peace.

We are so saddened to see your last day here on earth. We will never again experience the excitement whenever you come home for vacation and the sadness everytime the vacation is over. My mom would always say na parang nakikita ka nya parati dyan sa garden set mo nakaupo. Everytime we taik about you she would always brag that she is your favorite. Marami syang stories during your younger years and student days. I am grateful that we were given a chance to know you more since you were coming to pinas frequently. I will always cherish the moments we shared during your vacations. Uncle thank you we will forever mis you. See you in the next lifetime. Rest in peace

Dear Grandpa,

One of my favorite memories when I was a child was when you would grab my hands and tickle me, always saying "why are you tickling yourself?"  It would make me laugh every time.  Thank you for being kind to me, and for the memories of our visits every month when I was younger.  I will always remember you.

Celebrating your birthday in one of the farthest resort we've been to in  Laguna. 

To our lolo mundo, we will surely miss you lolo from our outing days with tito oscar and family. I will always remember your morning routine every time you come back here in the philippines, at exactly 7-8 am you will always stay at the balcony with your coffee and your “pamalo” because of the flies and mosquitos until now your chair and table is still there waiting for you, then you will always buy fishes and meat from the vendors passing by and of course our gifts and extra money every time you would see us going to school. Thank you lolo mundo, you will always be our lolo and enjoy heaven with lolo eduardo and tito boy

I've learned more about you in the past 2 years than I did compared to all the years before. Taking care of you has been a journey. We've had our good laughs. You talked about your siblings, and how you have shown that you are a real good brother to them. You've always talked fairness about your children, and you loved each and every single one of your grandchildren. I'm sorry we didn't hit the lottery big like you've always dreamed. I know how much you loved Ma and I will surely miss you every day. I love you. And I'm very lucky that I am your daughter, and I can say that proudly.

Grandpa,

It's still difficult to believe you're gone. Some mornings I still expect to walk through that door and hear the TV blast the morning news while you're checking your blood pressure. Or prepare myself to visit Ralph's to pick up some more bread and milk for you and grandma. You've taught us so much about the importance of hard work and taking care of family. It was a privilege to see and talk to you everyday, even through the hardest parts of your journey, and it will be one I continue to miss. Thank you for everything grandpa, and I know you're enjoying heaven and continuing to watch us.

To Grandpa Ray,

To say you lost to COVID is wrong, but that you have suffered enough in this lifetime is acceptable. Everyone knew you as the “Tough Guy”. Worked as a farmer for the province of Tarlac. Became a soldier for your country, the Philippines. Then immigrated with your family to America in May 1981. I don’t know much about that life, but many do. 

As a kid, I knew you as kind-hearted. You and grandma took care of my brother Mark and I when both of my parents had to work. I remember you eating pandesal with coffee and inviting us to watch The Price is Right with you. Whenever you were running errands, you would invite me, Mark, and cousin Bryan to come with you. You always offered us money and said “It’s okay!” And if we didn’t get a haircut from grandma, you would always take us to your barber in National City and have him cut it for us. 

It was not until in recent years did I see your resilience. In June 2017, you suffered your stroke that took away your movement on your left side and your ability to walk. I know the transition to being stuck in bed and having everyone help you in doing everyday things was tough on you. But you kept at it, and a couple years later, at 88 years old, you were walking on your own two feet again (with help from a walker). 

My last thought is that I know many times, you thought for the past few years you were a burden to us. I want you to know that you were not. Yes, we were frustrated at times. Even annoyed. But I want to say that we never took it personally. You and grandma took care of us for so long. It was our turn to do the same for you. 

So take care, grandpa. Rest in peace. You are now free of these earthly sufferings. I hope God and all our relatives who have left us are with you now. That you are driving the car of your dreams and eating all the food you haven’t been able to eat recently. We will not forget you down here. We will continue to be tough and resilient.

Now, in the hands of our Saviour.  Thank you for the beautiful memories and the life shared to us. We will miss you Uncle. Be strong Auntie and cousins.  Uncle is now resting in peace.

Papang I am very sorry we did not have a chance to talk to you before you  left us but I know you are a very "Tough Guy" which you told me to be one to survive in this life. You have been the best father and husband .
We thank you for everything. We love you and May you Rest In Peace

You showed "Tough Love".  It showed me how to be Confident to Stand on my Own  and become Independent. We will miss you and Now I know that each and every person will make their decision on how to be happy and fulfilled in our different lives. Godspeed.
