Primo R. Catangay was born on June 9th, 1947 to his proud parents, Valentin and Felicitas Catangay. He first greeted the world in Cuenca, Batangas, Philippines. Primo was raised in Cuenca with seven siblings named Fidel, Rey, Efren, Nestor, Merlinda, Annabelle and Lourdes. He attended and graduated from St. Joseph Olongapo High School in 1965.
As a young man, Primo met and fell in love with his sweetheart Teresita Banco. The two exchanged wedding vows on May 3rd, 1970 at Aplaya Catholic Church in Buan, Batangas. Showing empathy and loyalty to each other, the two shared many happy and loving years of marriage.
While everything a person does in life contributes to who they grow into, it is ultimately this same person who holds the most influence on the next generation. Primo worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Primo and Teresita were blessed with four children named James (JC), Princesita, Christine and Jennifer. He worked hard toward raising his children in a positive and nurturing environment.
Later in life, Primo was blessed with the joy of four grandchildren named Gianna, Zoe, Nicholas and Mariah.
Fortunately, Primo enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Primo worked diligently and did his best to succeed in each of his careers. While he worked several jobs over his lifetime, Primo’s most recent occupation was working for The United States Postal Service. Years ago, Primo enlisted in The United States Navy and proudly served his country for 23 years until his retirement. He achieved the final rank of E-6.
Like all people, Primo had his favorite things in life which always included his family and friends. He cherished the quality time he spent with his loved ones.
Primo’s faith was also very important to him. He was an active member of the Catholic Church and served as a member of the Catholic Cursullistas of St. Jerome.
On May 10th, 2011, Primo R. Catangay passed away in San Diego, California. He is survived by his loving wife Teresita B. Catangay; his children JC Ogborn, Christine Catangay, Jennifer Catangay and Princesita Catangay- Norgaard; his grandchildren Mariah Ogborn, Gianna Martinez, Zoe and Nicholas Norgaard; as well as many other family members and friends. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Jerome Catholic Church on May 20, 2011 and he was laid to rest at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.
